Charles Darwin

Natural Selection

The theory of evolution, formalized by Charles Darwin, is as much theory as is the theory of gravity, or the theory of relativity. Unlike theories of physics, biological theories, and especially evolution, have been argued long and hard in socio-political arenas. Even today, evolution is not often taught in primary schools. However, evolution is the binding force of all biological research. It is the unifying theme. In paleontology, evolution gives workers a powerful way to organize the remains of past life and better understand the one history of life. The history of thought about evolution in general and paleontological contributions specifically are often useful to the workers of today. Science, like any iterative process, draws heavily from its history.

The theory goes; that due to environmental factors, a species will develop personal characteristics to assist survival in the conditions. Taking generations, the adaptations will be passed down through genes and improved every generation.      Biological evolution is not simply a matter of a change over time. Everything changed over time, wood decays and rots, metal rusts, trees lost their leaves, but these aren't examples of biological evolution, because these activities are not due to genes inherited by ancestors.

The theory of evolution behind our species (Home sapiens), is that from the very beginning, DNA was randomly formed, and created creatures with DNA, eventually to form Ardipithecus Radimus, which evolved due to change in the environment in the super continent. The environment continued to dramatically change, causing species to evolve and adapt, eventually ending up with us; after 5.9 million years. (See Fig.1 in photo section)

It is believed that us as a species have stopped evolving. This is due to the 'survival of the fittest' theory. The theory suggests that because only the strongest, fastest and smartest male of the tribe (of different species, e.g. Homo ergastus, homo heidelbergensis etc), mated, being the alpha male; then the babies born had the strongest, fittest genes. This cycle occurred every generation, meaning that only the fittest survived. Nowadays, medicine prevents the unfit from dying out, meaning that evolution is at a halt, due to technology. If we didn't have cars, then we'd walk more, meaning we'd have stronger legs, and so our genes would inherit the strong legs, changing the whole of the next generation.

So in conclusion, there are 2 apparent theories.

The theory that we evolved (1) from ape like creatures (2).
